IDAHO CITY -- One lane of Idaho 21 has reopened north of Idaho City after a mudslide plugged a culvert, sending debris and water over the highway.

The mudslide occurred Wednesday evening, according to the Idaho Transportation Department. Officials closed the road as a precaution because they were sure how badly the roadway shoulder is eroded.

ITD crews were also concerned the base beneath the road could have been undermined by the mudslide.

The closure stretched between Rabbit Creek Road and Garden Valley Road , meaning drivers could not get from Lowman to Idaho City. That section was reopened with a pilot car at about 9 a.m., but drivers should expect delays in the area.
