BOISE -- Boise State senior golfer,Ty Travis, qualified to play in the U.S. Amateur Championships at Atlanta Athletic Club. Travis shot 68-71 in the 36-hole local qualifier at Banbury golf course on Tuesday.
Travis will head to Atlanta to compete against 312 of the best amateur golfers in the world. The winner of the tournament will receive an invitation to play in the 2015 Masters, U.S. Open, and British Open.
Travis will take long time friend and former teammate Jordan Skyles with him on the trip and Skyles will play the role of caddy for the tournament. The course where the tournament will be held has some impressive history to it, as it played host for the 2011 PGA Championship, one of four majors on the PGA Tour each year.
The first round of the U.S. Amateur will be August 11. There will be two rounds of stroke play followed by a cut in which the top 64 players will move on to a single elimination match play tournament until a champion is crowned. The match play portion will be aired on the Golf Channel.
