BOISE- - The Boise Hawks responded to a shutout loss on Thursday, beating the Hillsboro Hops, 11-1, on Friday night to even the series at one game apiece. Starter Trevor Clifton was dominant in the win, allowing just one hit and striking out six batters in six innings of work.

The Hawks struck first in the bottom of the second when Danny Canela hit solo homerun to centerfield, his third homer of the season. The Hawks added two more runs in the fourth, before allowing a Hops runner to cross the plate on a sacrifice. After that, the flood gates opened up, as the Hawks scored three runs in the seventh and five more in the eighth.

All but one Hawks batter got a hit in the 10-hit team performance. Canela led the Hawks in the batter s box, going 2-for-4 with two runs batted in. Rashad Crawford was 2-for-5 with two more RBI.

The Hawks will look to win the series in the final Game 3 on Saturday at 10:00a.m.

Fruitland high grad and Boise State football linebacker Joey Martarano made his professional baseball debut Friday, playing third base for the Arizona League Cubs. Martarano was 1-for-2 at the plate, with a walk and a run scored.
